If you like to travel with your pet, Fountain Hills might the perfect place for both of you to have fun. It’s a pet friendly community that offers amenities pet owners and pets can appreciate.

If your pup is more of a city dog, it might enjoy a stroll around Fountain Park. And if your dog likes to hike, you’ll find plenty of dog friendly hiking trails in Fountain Hills. A delightful short hike can be found on the Overlook Trail, a moderate trail with a 167 foot elevation change and a one way distance of only .4 miles. The summit rewards you with spectacular views of downtown Fountain hills, Four Peaks and the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation.

The Desert Vista Dog Park is a three-acre fenced facility that allows pet owners the opportunity to let their dogs run free (of course, dogs must be licensed and have proper vaccinations). The Dog Park is divided into two fenced areas, one for larger dogs and the other smaller canines. The large/active dog area can be accessed from entrances on either Tower Drive or Desert Vista. The small/passive dog area can only be accessed from Tower Drive. For details visit the Town of Fountain Hills website at:  http://www.fh.az.gov/desert-vista-park.aspx.

Another option is to take a walk in the Fountain Hills Botanical Garden just off Fountain Hills Boulevard. It’s a great place to find solitude right in town. Twenty-nine Sonoran Desert plants are identified along the half mile meandering trail that has been constructed on the desert slopes.  The trail allows for interesting views of rock formations, desert flora, animal life and an abandoned P-Bar Ranch campsite next to the April 25, 1941 constructed dam wall. Information and a downloadable brochure is available at http://www.fh.az.gov/botanical-garden.aspx

If your dog prefers a more vigorous hike, try the newly opened McDowell Mountain Preserve or take advantage of more than 40 miles of hiking and biking trails in the McDowell Mountain Regional Park. http://www.maricopa.gov/parks/mcdowell/
